Overview

Clan helps pet owners create profiles, keep pet health and care records, share content, and connect with nearby people. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using Clan, you agree that your information will be handled as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

We collect account information such as your name, email address, authentication provider, and profile details.

We collect pet information that you choose to add, including pet names, photos, breed, birthday, notes, and other profile details.

When you use Health, we collect the pet care and health information you choose to record, such as daily check-ins, weight, observations, vaccinations, medications, deworming, veterinary visits, and reminders.

We collect content you create in Clan, such as posts, photos, comments, and other interactions.

We may collect approximate location or neighborhood information when you use features that help you discover nearby pet owners, if you grant permission or provide that information.

We collect technical information such as device type, browser, app version, IP address, logs, crash reports, and usage events so we can keep Clan reliable and secure.

How we use information

We use your information to provide Clan, create and show profiles, publish content you choose to share, and help you connect with other pet owners.

We use pet care and health records to show your pet's timeline and summaries, manage reminders, and make the information available to people you authorize to care for that pet.

We use information to authenticate accounts, prevent abuse, protect the security of Clan, troubleshoot issues, and improve features.

We may use contact information to send service messages, account notices, security alerts, and product updates. You can opt out of non-essential communications where required by law.

Sharing and visibility

Profile details, pet profiles, posts, and interactions may be visible to other Clan users depending on the feature and your settings.

Pet care and health records are private to the account and to people who have been granted access to the pet; they are not published as community content.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers that help us operate hosting, authentication, analytics, support, communications, and security.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

Cookies and similar technologies

Clan uses functional browser storage for Supabase authentication, a versioned cookie-consent record in localStorage, and the waitlist city in sessionStorage. The waitlist does not store your email address, first name, or newsletter consent in the browser.

When PostHog is configured, EU-hosted analytics is imported and activated only after you consent. Rejecting analytics leaves telemetry inactive; withdrawing consent opts out, resets the analytics identity, and disables PostHog persistence. You can reopen cookie settings from the footer.

Ghost processes the email address, optional first name, city labels, and separate newsletter consent you submit to the waitlist. Ghost uses double opt-in, so your subscription is not confirmed until you follow the email confirmation step.

Data retention

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Clan, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain security.

If you delete your account or request deletion, we will remove or anonymize information where required, unless we need to retain it for legitimate business, legal, safety, or security reasons.

Your choices

You can update many account, profile, and pet details in the app. You may also request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal information where those rights apply.

To make a privacy request, contact us at privacy@clan.pet. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request.

Children

Clan is not intended for children under 13, or the minimum age required in your location. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

International use

Clan may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have different data protection laws.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice through the app, website, or another reasonable method.
